MY BEAUTIFUL
It’s an honor as I showcase my beautiful country and its enormous opportunities. Sierra Leone is located on the coast of West Africa, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean in south west, by Liberia in south east and it is half surrounded by Guinea in north and north east. It has an area of 71,740 km² with a population of eight million people. The country's landscape offers a flat coastal belt, the eastern half of the nation is covered by hills and high mountains.

The official spoken language is English. Sierra Leone has an enjoyable climate that offers two seasons, the rainy season from May to December, and a dry season from December to May. The country’s nature offers touristic attractions like beautiful beaches, islands, mountains and rich culture. Freetown is the capital city of Sierra Leone and this city holds almost all governmental institutions like State house, Parliament, Ministries and Agencies.

Market Opportunities
Over the years, Sierra Leone has made significant reforms in easing the process of setting up a business, including establishing a one-stop shop for company registration. In 2020, the World Bank ranked the country 58 out of 190 countries with 91 percent score for easing the process of starting a business, one of ten indicators used in evaluating the business climate.
Sierra Leone offers opportunities for investment. The country is gifted with a favorable tropical climate with fertile soil advantageous for agriculture, an extensive continental shelf with numerous varieties of fishery resources, a natural environment offering touristic prospects, and vast mineral resources. The economy has potential in five main areas: agriculture, fisheries, mining, tourism, and manufacturing. Mining of minerals, especially iron ore, diamonds, gold, rutile, ilmenite, and bauxite are the main sources of foreign currency. Manufacturing activities are primarily limited to the processing of raw materials and light industries for the domestic market. Fomel Industry and National Industrialization Centre (FINIC) is a manufacturing Enterprise which has existed for over two decades on exemplary engineering.
This Manufacturing Enterprise is owned by a Sierra Leonean and has existed for more than 20 years of manufacturing of Agro Processing equipment and machineries such as Rice Mill, Rice Dryer, Palm Oil Mill, Palm Kernel Cracker, Cassava Grater, Cassava Peeler etc. This Enterprise also conducts free skills training to youths for self-empowerment.
Foreign investors can engage in agriculture, mining, fisheries, and tourism, and can undertake ventures in infrastructure like in energy (including renewables), manufacturing, construction, communication, and transportation, and in other sectors like education, finance, health and natural resources. The government seeks investment in all these sectors and engagement will potentially ignite economic growth and development. The GoSL wants economic growth and development to be led by the private sector.

Chinese companies presently in Sierra Leone
Since 1971, China and Sierra Leone has established a strong bilateral relationship for fifty years now. In an article posted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China gave a crystal highlight of friendship that exist between the two countries. From the article it was stated that “President Xi affirms that the two countries have always maintained sincerity, friendship, solidarity and mutual assistance since the establishment of diplomatic ties, He went on to say China is ready to enhance practical co-operation with Sierra Leone in all areas to create more growth and to achieve a common development of the two countries’’.
Currently there are close to ten thousand Chinese national living and working in Sierra Leone. Many are engaged in various sectors such as Construction, Mining, Fisheries and Manufacturing. Sierra Leone is among the top six exporters of Iron Ore to China, there are vast Chinese Nationals in this sector such as Shandong Steel Group and Kingho Investment Company Limited. Sierra Leone is also one of the major diamonds producing countries in Africa, top seven according to to Afrika Tech article, the diamonds are of good quality and the country presented a production of 811.6 thousand carats of diamonds in 2019. The diamond deposits are alluvial and are mostly artisanal type operations.
